Meet Your Instructor

Sifu Mark Spiteri began his martial arts journey in 1991 under the guidance of Charles Gaffiero, where he started his Kung Fu training. From his earliest training days in Sliema, the focus was on traditional Kung Fu principles, discipline, and practical self defence. After years of consistent dedication, he attained his Black Sash in Mong Lung Kung Fu.

In the years that followed, under the continued supervision of Sifu Charles, together with Sifu Alan and Sifu Noel, he further developed his coaching abilities while assisting in the instruction of numerous students at the Sliema kwoon. This period strengthened both his technical knowledge and his teaching experience.

While continuing his own training, Sifu Mark laid the foundations of the Malta Self Defence Academy. From its inception, the academy aimed to provide structured Kung Fu tuition that balances traditional martial arts values with modern self defence needs.

Malta Self-Defence Academy was officially launched in January 2006, with its first kwoon located in Msida. After several years, the academy relocated to Hamrun, and is now established in its current location in Fleur-de-Lys, Birkirkara.

Nowadays, the Academy is an established martial arts school in Malta, with over 20 years experience providing weekly Mon Lung Kung Fu classes for adults and kids. The academy promotes a positive learning environment where students progress at their own pace, gaining practical knowledge and confidence that extends beyond its kwoon.
